To echo the words of our client who expressed her concern over a previous research arrangement she had with one of the countless researchers who currently advertise a 'genealogical research service. "One hour of high quality research is infinitely more desirable and more cost effective, than a few hours of fumbling around."

Yorkshire Family History has long been established for dealing effectively with genealogical research problems. Just as in its own way every family is unique; the resultant paper trail of each family is equally so. Correspondingly, each of our clients will have a different research objective and much will depend upon how far back you wish to extend the knowledge of your family.

It is with this in mind that Yorkshire Family History deem it inappropriate to charge a large standard fee but to give our clients the ability to control the amount and therefore the ultimate cost of research, or if they wish, to restrict themselves to a cost ceiling. It is for this reason that we provide our clients with a choice of payment options.

The options include either Fee Based for one or more Research Projects or an Hourly Rate Fee to meet specific requirements. Dependent upon your requirements, both options can form part of an ongoing and lengthier research investigation of your ancestry and this has the advantage of spreading the cost of research over time. We currently have a number of clients for whom we have been conducting research in excess of two years.

FEE BASED RESEARCH PROJECTS

Each research project represents ten research hours though significantly is offered within an all-inclusive fee structure. A research project fee includes all expenses incurred, such as research fees and costs of travel, civil registration certificates, the inclusion of all photocopies of historical material obtained during the course of research, the compilation and production of a Family Tree and Narrative Profile together with all mailing costs.

It is our experience that the majority of our clients who decide upon the research project option often wish to have us research beyond the confines of one research project. It is for this reason that we offer continuing research projects at an advantageously reduced fee, providing that they are purchased at the outset of your research.

Each individual research project is of course unique though in general one research project can often extend the knowledge of your family back into the first half of the 1800's, assuming of course that we are commencing research from more recent generations. However, depending upon how far back you wish to extend the knowledge of your ancestors you may decide to order one, two or three research projects at the outset of your research. Securing research retainers in this manner allows us to plan research in advance and in so doing we can offer a significant fee reduction to those clients.

For example, the purchase of one research project and the subsequent purchase of additional single research projects are £385. However, the purchase of two research projects at the outset will only cost £720 while the purchase of three research projects at the outset is only £1000. If you choose to purchase three research projects at the outset and then decide to continue with your research further still then in this circumstance each subsequent research project is the same cost as that of the third research project, a mere £280.

In order to keep you informed on the progress of your research, upon completion of each stage of your research, we will of course report back to you with our findings.

One research project will generally be completed within a maximum of twelve weeks of ordering while the investigations for two and three research projects will take a few weeks longer. We often find that several members of a family are meeting the costs of research, therefore if required we can provide any number of duplicate copies of all documents, charts and narratives at a nominal cost of £20 per set.

If after the first two hours of research, Yorkshire Family History are unable to make any progress with your research project, we will inform you of the situation, at which time you will be entitled to a refund of your fee paid, less our minimum fee of £40.

HOURLY RATE RESEARCH

You may be conducting your own family history research and require occasional assistance from us or you may have a specific research objective in mind. In the first instance, you may even decide to try our service at the hourly rate fee before committing to a Fee Based Research Project. Whichever, fees can be charged by the hour with a minimum research time of two hours - our current hourly rate is £14. Research findings will be reported via email; please email us with your specific requirements and we will be pleased to provide details.

Our hourly rate covers all research time conducted on your behalf in pursuance of the stated goal, which will of course depend upon your particular requirements. The additional expenditure that you will incur are those expenses for which you the client would incur if you were to conduct the research yourself; clear examples are certificate fees, photocopies of documentation and travel costs; all such additional expenditure is simply charged back to you at cost.

You may purchase, as many hours of research as you wish but your choice should be reflective of your stated goal and include an additional sum to cover costs of possible expenditure. In all cases, upon completion of each stage of your research, we will report back to you with our findings along with further suggestions for continuing research where appropriate. FAMILY TREES

Yorkshire Family History will be delighted to compile a Family Tree Chart from your own research work. We charge a one off fee of £95 for which you will receive two charts on high quality calligraphy paper and which will be suitable for framing. In addition you will receive two copies on standard white paper for you to use as working copies. All charts are mailed to you in appropriate protective packaging. The resultant chart can also be sent to you as an Adobe Acrobat file attachment that can be opened up on your own computer, this we provide at no extra cost.
